Bidwell Mansion: Where Chico Began

John Bidwell helped lay out Chico in 1860 and finished his three-story mansion in 1868, the year he married Annie Kennedy. Their gifts gave the town Bidwell Park and the land for Chico State. The mansion itself has been closed since an arson fire in December 2024, but its story, and the visitor center, are still here.
