Paradise and the Ridge sit in the Sierra foothills east of Chico, 2,000 to 2,800 feet up, with Magalia and Paradise Lake to the north and Butte Creek Canyon below. The Town has been rebuilding since the 2018 Camp Fire under its community recovery plan, and parks, the Depot Museum and the rebuilt Honey Run Covered Bridge are open to visitors.
The Camp Fire and Rebuilding
The Camp Fire started at 6:33 a.m. on November 8, 2018, near Pulga Road at Camp Creek Road by Jarbo Gap. It burned 153,336 acres in Butte County and was contained on November 25, after 17 days. CAL FIRE lists 18,804 structures destroyed, 754 damaged and 85 civilian deaths, and gives the cause as power lines.[CAL FIRE]
Since then the Town of Paradise has been rebuilding under a Long-Term Recovery Plan made with residents, with projects for roads, a walkable downtown, evacuation routes, public safety, education and the arts.[Town of Paradise] The town’s longer story is on our Paradise and the Ridge history page.
