A Day in Chico: A Saturday Itinerary

A full Saturday in Chico without long drives: the farmers market, Big Chico Creek at One-Mile, two small museums, the Chico State campus, Horseshoe Lake in Upper Bidwell Park and dinner at Sierra Nevada. It is built for a Saturday because the market, the Nature Center and the Gateway museum are all open then.

If It Rains or a Stop Is Closed

  • Gateway Science Museum and the Chico Creek Nature Center are indoors. Upper Park trails close to bikes and horses when wet, and trails can close on wet days without notice.
  • Sunday or Monday: the Lot E gate at Horseshoe Lake is closed to cars, and the Gateway museum is closed (open Thursday to Saturday). Swap in the Wednesday farmers market on a weekday.
  • Sycamore Pool showed a Swim Advisory on the City status page on October 29, 2026; see the health warning at the top, and check the signs at the pool.

How We Timed This

Road times and miles come from OpenStreetMap routing between the stops in this order. They do not include live traffic, road work, closures or parking. Arrival times assume the start time shown, and the minutes at each stop are our own planning estimates, not the operators’. Hours are checked against what each operator posts where we have them.
