How The Fair Got Its Name
In 1950 the fair ordered 50,000 silver dollars from the U.S. Mint, and the name stuck. The fairgrounds has been on Fair Street since 1938, when the City of Chico donated the site. The Third District Agricultural Association that runs it was formed in 1935. Car racing first came to the 1948 Spring Fair, and the grandstand went up in 1960. Today the grounds are also home to the Silver Dollar Speedway, and the grandstands seat 4,000. More on our fairgrounds page.
Other Events at The Fairgrounds
The fairgrounds hosts shows all year. The fairgrounds’ public events list showed only September 2026 shows when we checked.
